SAVANNAH, Ga. () — A mother’s mission to honor her daughter and demand justice brought a community together Tuesday in Yamacraw Village.
The “May Day for Desaray” walk was held in memory of ‘Desaray Gilliard’… who was shot and killed three years ago.
her killer still hasn’t been caught.
The walk began at Yamacraw Square and ended at City Hall. It was a public stand against gun violence and a plea for answers.
Desaray’s mother told she wanted to use her grief for change.
“Sadly, gun violence is not really touched on,” Detraya Gilliard said. “People try to suppress it, it’s not a topic for the dinner table it’s a rather controversial topic but as a parent that lost a child to gun violence I could not just sit there and do anything. Of course, people grieve differently but my grief is to always uphold Desaray’s legacy.”
Anyone with information on Desaray Gilliard’s case is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 912-234-2020.
