SANDERSVILLE, Ga. – The community of Sandersville is coming together to honor the memory of two young siblings, Christian Jackson, 7, and Maliyah Russel, 4, who tragically lost their lives in a house fire on Valentine’s Day. A public balloon release is scheduled for Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Ridge Road Primary School, located at 285 Ridge Road, to commemorate the young lives lost too soon.
Christian, a bright and engaging second grader at Ridge Road Primary School, was cherished for his intelligence and the radiant smile that could light up any room, as noted by the Washington County Public School District in a heartfelt press release. His sister Maliyah shared in the warmth and joy that endeared them both to their family and community.
To further honor their memory, a “Celebration of Life” service is set for Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 1 p.m. This gathering will take place at the T.J. Elder Middle School Gymnasium on 902 Linton Road S., with Rev. Tracy Wheeler Sr. leading the ceremony. Wheeler’s Funeral Home in Sandersville is in charge of the arrangements.
In the wake of this tragedy, the family is striving to cope with the profound loss and the destruction of their home. Efforts to raise funds for the children’s funerals and to help the family rebuild have so far garnered $29,588, nearing their goal of $50,000. The community’s support is a testament to the love and solidarity that Christian and Maliyah inspired in those around them.
