In Savannah, Georgia, a family is mourning the tragic loss of 47-year-old Tonya Sellers, who was fatally shot at a local gas station last week.
Her grieving family is reaching out to the community, seeking assistance to honor her memory with a fitting funeral service.
Family members are grappling with the shocking revelation that her boyfriend, identified by authorities as Pierre Byrd, is alleged to have shot her in broad daylight on December 3rd.
“When you grow up with people who are a constant in your life, you envision your future with them,” expressed her niece, Correnia Sellers. “It feels surreal now to imagine life without her presence.”
Tonya Sellers was remembered by her family as a vibrant, intelligent, and independent woman who lived life to the fullest.
“She had a very bright personality,” Correnia said. “She was very smart and strictly business.”
Police say witnesses reported that Sellers and Byrd appeared to be in an altercation that morning. After officers were called, gunshots were fired.
EMS transported Sellers to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
“The reason it’s so shocking to us is because he was so nice, and they usually are,” Correnia said.
Sellers leaves behind three boys, all under the age of 13.
While Byrd is now behind bars, her family says they don’t believe true justice is possible.
“No matter how long he’s away, nothing could ever make it fair,” Correnia said. “We can’t have her back.”
Byrd has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The Sellers family has created a GoFundMe to help cover funeral and burial costs. They say any contribution is appreciated. The link to that and our previous coverage can be found here.
