URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) – As April unfolds, it marks National Donate Life Month, a time dedicated to celebrating the generosity of organ donors and spreading awareness about the importance of organ donation.
On Thursday, a poignant gathering took place at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where attendees came together to both mourn and celebrate. This heartfelt ceremony paid tribute to organ donors and the recipients who have been granted a new lease on life.
Currently, over 100,000 individuals across the United States are on the waiting list for organ transplants, hoping for a life-saving match.
“Tragically, while waiting for a suitable organ, approximately 17 people lose their lives each day without ever receiving a transplant,” remarked Harry Wilkins, CEO of the organ and tissue donor network, Gift of Hope.
