TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — As a cold front approaches the Tampa Bay area this week, residents without proper shelter or heating may face challenging conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Watch, with temperatures expected to plummet to 40 degrees or lower.

To help those in need, cold weather shelters across the region are preparing to open their doors. Hillsborough County will activate its cold weather shelters starting Sunday and will remain open through Tuesday. These shelters will welcome guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. each evening, contingent on available space.

In neighboring Pinellas County, shelters will operate on Monday night, opening at 6 p.m. and closing at 6 a.m. the following morning. They will continue to accept guests until they reach full capacity.
