CONCORD, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A festive evening in downtown Concord was marred by gunfire Friday night, as four individuals sustained gunshot wounds during the annual tree lighting, according to city officials.

Authorities report that those injured include the two alleged shooters and two 17-year-olds. Currently, the shooters and one teenager are in critical condition, while the other teenager has been discharged from the hospital. The incident unfolded at an event hosted by the city on Church Street and Cabarrus Avenue.

“What should have been a joyous occasion for our community was shattered by an act of needless violence, impacting all present,” remarked Concord Police Chief Jimmy Hughes. “Our community demonstrated remarkable resilience and unity, with everyone assisting each other and our officers. Thanks to the swift actions of our downtown businesses, the public, first responders, and law enforcement, we were able to evacuate the area promptly, avert further injuries, and identify all those involved.”
