POOLER, Ga. () — The City of Pooler continues to look toward the future as many people continue to flock to the area, causing the need for roadway improvements.

When you’re talking about traffic in Pooler, many think of Pooler Parkway which is lined with popular businesses. However, one-lane roads that feed into the parkway are also in need of upgrades. Pooler Mayor Karen Williams said it’s time to pick up the shovels and make necessary road improvements.

“Chatham County is working on their improvements of Quacco Road from Highway 17 all the way up to the bridge of Interstate 95,” Mayor Williams said. “That’s their portion. Our portion is from I-95 all the way up to Westbrooke Lane on Pooler Parkway.”

She told News 3 that, Quacco Road near Pooler Parkway will be receiving a much-needed widening to start.

“Phase one will be for Westbrooke Lane to Canal Bank Road,” Mayor Williams explained. “That will be a three-lane road going both ways.”

We also received a rough timeline on the process and when you should see shovels in the ground.

“The engineering should be complete around the first quarter of 2025,” said Mayor Willaims. “The construction plan should go out for bid in the second quarter of 2025. The construction should be awarded and shovels to the ground mid to late 2025.”

It seems Pooler’s growth won’t be slowing down any time soon, so there is an urgency to invest in infrastructure.

“The city of Pooler, we have approximately just under 30,000 residents,” Mayor Williams said. “But that’s not what’s on our streets. We have around 80,000 to 90,000 per day going through Pooler.”

She continues, “We just have to do our best and protect our families and have the infrastructure in place. If not, work on improving what’s in place to make it better.”

The city is looking to improve Benton Boulevard in Pooler Parkway and Pine Barren Road in Pooler Parkway. Mayor Williams told us these are large intersections that need work.
