ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (WCIA) — Some drivers in Champaign County may need to plan a different route to work beginning Monday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that repairs to the County Road 2500E bridge over Interstate 74, just east of St. Joseph, will begin Aug. 18. County Road 2500E over I-74 will be closed for four weeks, IDOT said.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes to avoid the work area whenever possible. IDOT also said that drivers should expect delays and allow extra travel time when passing through the area.

Over the next several years, IDOT plans to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and roughly 9 million square feet of bridge deck. To find other active road closures in Illinois, visit IDOT’s website.
