WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. – In the early hours of Saturday morning, at approximately 2:45 a.m., a Washington County Deputy on duty near the Washington State Prison detected the buzz of a drone flying overhead.

The deputy swiftly located the drone, tracked its path, and observed it as it touched down on the roadway just outside the prison. Acting quickly, the deputy disabled the drone, discovering it was transporting a bag filled with contraband.

In response, deputies initiated a patrol of the nearby Davisboro area, actively searching for the individual operating the drone.

During this operation, a deputy noticed a vehicle speeding and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver ignored the signals and sped away onto Highway 88. As the chase unfolded, the occupants of the vehicle began discarding bags from the windows.

The pursuit concluded when deputies executed a successful PIT maneuver, enabling them to immediately apprehend one suspect. Meanwhile, two others fled into the adjacent woods. Nevertheless, with the aid of GDC K9 units, Washington County deputies were able to track down and arrest the two fugitives.

After the pursuit, deputies recovered the discarded bags, which were found to contain additional contraband.
