SAVANNAH, Ga. () — On Wednesday afternoon, the weather presented a mix of clouds and mild temperatures, ranging from the upper 60s to the lower 70s, just before a cold front was expected to move in later that evening.

In several areas, showers made an appearance, although most regions only saw light to moderate rainfall.

As the night progresses into early Thursday, cooler and drier air is predicted to sweep through, with temperatures dipping to the upper 40s and lower 50s.

By Thursday afternoon, temperatures will climb back into the mid to upper 60s under a partly sunny sky. However, expect a breezy day, with winds coming from the west at speeds of 5-15 mph and gusts potentially exceeding 25 mph.

Halloween day is forecasted to begin with mostly sunny skies and morning temperatures starting in the lower 40s. Some inland areas might see temperatures drop to the mid to upper 30s. The afternoon promises to be both sunny and warm.

Weather conditions for Trick or Treating will start out cool with temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s by sunset around 6:35 p.m. and will cool into the lower 50s by 9 p.m.

Saturday morning will again be a clear and chilly one with lower in the upper 30s to lower 40s. A good supply of sunshine throughout the afternoon will help afternoon highs to reach the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Warmer afternoons are expected Sunday through next Wednesday with highs reaching the lower 70s each day. A few showers or storms are possible Monday and into Tuesday as the next system swings through the southeastern United States.

Daylight saving time ends this Saturday night and you will have an extra hour of sleep. Be sure to turn your clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

The National Hurricane Center continues to track Hurricane Melissa as it moves through the southeastern Bahamas and Turks and Caicos.

It is a much weaker system after making landfall in eastern Cuba at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday as a Category 3 hurricane. It had 120 mph sustained wind with higher gusts.

Melissa has 90 mph sustained wind as of 8 p.m. EDT and is moving north-northeast at 16 mph.

The projected path indicates that Melissa will move toward Bermuda by late Thursday night. It is possible that Melissa regains some strength once back over the open waters of the Atlantic at least in the short-term.

Melissa will become a post-tropical low by the weekend in the far North Atlantic.

A strong cold front moving off of North America will prevent this from becoming any threat to the U.S. other than high surf and rip currents.
