OCONEE, Tenn. () — Gavin Adcock, a rising country music star and a former college football player, was arrested in Tennessee on May 21.

According to Nashville newspaper The Tennessean, Adcock was arrested by the Tennessee Highway Patrol for reckless driving and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.

The “A Cigarette” singer posted bond and was released the next day, court records show. No additional details were immediately available.

Adcock has sold more than 100,000 tickets for his most recent tour. His record label debut, “Actin’ Up Again,” was the most-streamed country debut album of 2024 with more than 350 million streams. He was recently nominated for new male artist of the year during the American Country Music Awards.

Before becoming a country music singer, Adcock played football for Georgia Southern. He was suspended from the team in 2021 after a video of him standing on a moving school bus and drinking a beer before a game was posted online.

“I want to reach out and express my deepest apology for my foolish actions on the bus this past Saturday,” Adcock said in an apology posted online after the incident. “What I did was very selfish and is not what we are about here at Georgia Southern.”

He was suspended for one game while the incident was investigated, only to leave the team a few weeks later in what he told Nexstar’s was a mutual decision.

Shortly before his suspension, Adcock spoke with about his musical passion and his first single, “We Love Football.”

“I really love relating to people,” Adcock said at the time. “I really love doing something that touches people and makes them say ‘dang, I want to listen to this again.’”
