PAXTON, Ill. (WCIA) — Northbound Interstate 57 is closed by Paxton after three vehicles were involved in a crash Monday morning.

The crash happened near the exit to Paxton at 4 a.m. Officials from the Illinois State Police said it started when a semi-truck went off the highway, struck a guardrail and rolled over.

This caused approximately 60 feet of the guardrail to become dislodged and obstruct the highway. Officials said two other vehicles — another semi-truck and an SUV — struck the guardrail.

The driver of the SUV was transported to an area hospital with injuries. Officials did not say what condition they are in.

The northbound lanes of the highway were shut down after the crash, and they remain closed as of 9:45 a.m. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route of travel.
