AUGUSTA, Ga. () – In a significant move to support local education, United Way of the CSRA has been awarded a $15,000 grant aimed at ensuring elementary students have access to schooling. This generous funding comes courtesy of the Community Foundation for the CSRA.
The grant, announced via a press release on Tuesday, is part of the Community Grants Program. It will bolster an initiative focused on combating chronic absenteeism in three local schools. The program seeks to address the barriers that prevent students from attending school regularly.
Specifically, the initiative will be implemented at Wilkinson Gardens Elementary, Richmond Hill Elementary, and Barton Chapel Elementary. The program’s goal is to pinpoint the specific reasons behind persistent absenteeism in families and provide the necessary community services to tackle these issues. This effort will be managed under the guidance of United Way AmeriCorps VISTAs.
“Our community is strongest when we work together to remove barriers to education,” expressed Brittany Burnett, President & CEO of United Way of the CSRA. “This grant allows us to dig deep into the root causes of absenteeism and provide tailored support that helps families and students thrive.”
The announcement of this funding was attended by Brittany Burnett and Richmond County Schools Superintendent Dr. Malinda Cobb, marking a collaborative step forward in addressing educational challenges in the region.
