DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Custard Cup in Danville is scooping more than just ice cream.

Their Scoops of Love campaign collects customer donations to give back to local organizations.

A different group is chosen each month to receive the money. Custard Cup Owner Andrew Seibert said it’s a privilege to be able to come together for the betterment of the community.

“It’s just really important to me to give back to our community and our customers are embracing that and joining us in that,” Seibert said.

On Sunday, Danville Humane Society, St. James Food Pantry and It Takes a Village mentorship were each awarded a few thousand dollars.

Danville Humane Society Director Alyssa Julian said the money could not have come at a better time.

“We definitely need it,” Julian said. “Our animals at the Humane Society of Danville, they stay with us until adoption or unless they get really sick and can’t get better, so long-term care costs a lot of money whether that’s their vetting or food or just keeping a roof over their head.”

This is the second year of the program.  Last year the Custard Cup was able to give about $16,000 to several organizations. This year, they’re on track to donate $20,000.
