A harrowing hit-and-run incident in Long County, Georgia, has left a bicyclist with severe injuries, now receiving treatment in Savannah. The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) reported that the accident unfolded on Saturday around 5:14 p.m. on SR 38 near Wheeler Road NE.

According to officials, the collision happened when a vehicle heading west on SR 38 veered off course, striking the bicyclist who was riding in the same direction along the road’s north shoulder. The car’s passenger side made contact with the cyclist for reasons yet to be determined.

The impact was devastating, hurling the adult male cyclist from his bike and inflicting significant injuries. He was promptly transported to Savannah for urgent medical attention.

In a disturbing turn of events, the driver responsible for the crash fled the scene before authorities arrived. Witnesses at the site identified the vehicle involved as a large, dark SUV, though the driver remains elusive.
