SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A 40-year-old male bicyclist was sent to the hospital, and deputies are looking for a suspect after a hit and run accident in Williamsville.

According to the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, the bicyclist was riding westbound near 2500 Dinius Road when he was struck by a silver van. The van then left the scene before deputies arrived. The suspect is an older white male in his 70s/80s per witness and was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt, blue jeans and a baseball hat.

The van left the scene westbound, and a mirror and plastic were collected at the scene of the hit and run from the suspect vehicle. The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, suffered minor scrapes from making contact with the roadway. The helmet was cracked, and EMS subsequently took him to HSHS St. John’s Hospital.

This incident remains under investigation.
