A resident of Damascus, Virginia, is currently detained without the option of bail following a traffic stop and an extensive two-month probe that led to numerous drug-related allegations.
According to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement officials conducted a traffic stop on Sunday, uncovering approximately one pound of methamphetamine, an ounce of crack cocaine, and $500 in cash. The driver, identified as 56-year-old James C. Hutton, faces several charges as a result.
- Manufacturing, Selling, Giving, Distributing, or Possessing with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, Give, or Distribute Methamphetamine
- Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance
- Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Control Act
- Possession of a Firearm While in Possession of Certain Controlled Substances
- Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance
Following Hutton’s transfer to the Southwest Regional Jail, where he remains held without bail, authorities executed a search warrant at his residence on Klondyke Road in Damascus. During the search, they reportedly seized around 250 grams of methamphetamine, an assortment of firearms including two shotguns, two rifles, and two pistols, along with nearly $6,000 in cash.
This arrest is part of a collaborative two-month investigation with the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office, targeting drug trafficking activities in the area.
