Dangerous Surf, Coastal Flooding Persist as Midweek Rain Increases

ORLANDO, Fla. – Strong northeast winds will continue into Tuesday, keeping beach and offshore conditions dangerous. Temperatures should remain near normal, but rough surf, powerful winds and unusually high tides will keep coastal hazards elevated through at least midweek.

Dangerous beach and boating conditions continue

Central Florida beaches face another day of hazardous weather Tuesday, including large breaking waves, a high risk of life-threatening rip currents and the possibility of additional coastal flooding.

A Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect through Tuesday. Minor to moderate flooding is possible near high tide, with saltwater potentially covering low-lying roads, parking areas, docks and yards along the coast and Intracoastal Waterway.

Powerful waves will continue to produce moderate to major beach erosion, particularly around high tide. Breaking waves could reach 8 to 13 feet, making it extremely dangerous to enter the ocean.

Boaters will also encounter dangerous conditions offshore. Gale Warnings remain posted for parts of the Atlantic waters, where northeast winds will run 20 to 30 knots with gusts up to 35 knots. Seas ranging from 10 to 15 feet are expected through Wednesday, with the largest waves developing near the Gulf Stream.

Although winds should gradually weaken later in the week, offshore conditions will take longer to improve.

Rain chances increase slightly by midweek

Tuesday’s forecast calls for a mix of sunshine and clouds, along with a few fast-moving showers. Rain chances will remain limited for most locations, while the best opportunity for showers stays focused farther south.

Afternoon temperatures will be seasonable, reaching the lower 80s.

A new push of moisture will reach the region Wednesday and Thursday, slightly increasing the chance of passing showers across Central Florida. Rain will remain scattered, however, meaning many locations may stay dry.

Breezy weather will continue through the latter half of the workweek, with highs rising into the lower to middle 80s. Nights will stay mild, with temperatures generally settling in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Halloween forecast looking good for trick-or-treaters

There is better news for anyone making Halloween plans. Humidity may be slightly higher Saturday, but the overall forecast appears favorable for trick-or-treating.

Temperatures will climb into the lower to middle 80s during the afternoon before falling into the 70s Saturday evening. It could feel somewhat muggy for late October, but conditions should remain comfortable for costumes and neighborhood walks.

Don’t forget to fall back this weekend

Daylight Saving Time ends early Sunday morning, November 1.

At 2 a.m., clocks will move back one hour, providing an extra hour of sleep.

The trade-off is earlier sunsets: Beginning Sunday evening, the sun will set an hour earlier on the clock as November gets underway.
