Danville Fire Captain retiring; new Lt., Captain appointed

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — As the Danville Fire Captain is retiring after nearly 27 years of service, a new Lieutenant and Captain have been promoted to fill the roles.

On Tuesday, the Danville Fire Department announced the retirement of Captain Neil Yelenick. His career consisted of 26 years and 11 months of distinguished service to the City of Danville.

To celebrate Yelenick’s career, a special “walk-out” ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at Danville Fire Station #3 at 1111 N Griffin Street. A welcome reception will be held at the end of the ceremony,

“Please join us in thanking Captain Yelenick for his extraordinary dedication and in wishing him health and happiness in retirement,” the City of Danville said in a press release.

With Yelenick retiring, two current members of the Danville Fire Department will be receiving promotions.

On Tuesday, Danville Fire also announced that Lt. David Jones is being promoted to the rank of Captain, and firefighter Broc Atwood will be promoted to the rank of Lt. To make the promotions official, a formal swearing-in ceremony will be held on Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. at Danville City Hall. The event will be led by Mayor Rickey Williams Jr.
