DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A man and a woman died in Danville Friday evening after an apparent murder-suicide, according to the city’s police department.

On May 9 at approximately 5:57 p.m., Danville Police responded to the area of the 200 block of Grace St. for the report of shots fired. On scene, officers located a 32-year-old Danville woman lying in the front yard of a residence with “apparent gunshot wounds.” The victim was transported to local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

Following this, Danville officers began an initial investigation and spoke to witnesses who had heard the gunshots and then saw a man standing next to the victim while holding a handgun. The suspect then went inside of the residence and had not been seen since.

Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect but were unable to do so. The Danville Police Emergency Response Unit (ERU) then responded to the scene and made entry into the residence. Once inside, ERU members found a 60-year-old Danville man who was deceased with an “apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

At this time, the identification of the deceased individuals is being withheld pending notifications by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office. Additionally, the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office are assisting the Danville Police Department in this investigation.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and no further information is available at this time. The department is asking anyone who has information on this incident to call them at 217-431-2250 or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 217-446-TIPS.
