DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — One person is dead following a crash in Danville between a “motorized bicycle” and an SUV on Sunday, police said.
The crash happened around 4:11 p.m. in the area of Harmon and Voorhees Streets. Joshua Webb, Danville’s Deputy Chief of Police, said a 43-year-old man was severely injured in the crash, and he was later pronounced dead at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center.
A preliminary investigation was performed by the Danville Police Department, with assistance from the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
Webb said the investigation determined the victim was riding the motorized bike, traveling north on Harmon Street, when he failed to yield at the stop sign. The SUV was driving east on Voorhees, and the bike hit its passenger-side door.
The driver of the SUV was not hurt.
Webb stated that the victim was a 43-year-old man from Danville, but provided no further information about him. The Vermilion County Coroner’s Office will release his name once his family is notified.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, Webb added. Anyone with further information on the crash is advised to call the Danville Police Department at 217-431-2250.
