Danville Resident Receives 13.5-Year Sentence for Methamphetamine Offenses

A Danville resident involved in methamphetamine distribution has been handed a prison sentence of 13 and a half years, following a court ruling on Monday in Vermilion County, Illinois.

Richard Dietz, aged 57, admitted guilt on October 20 to charges of possessing methamphetamine with the intention to distribute, a severe class X felony. His punishment includes a 13.5-year term in Illinois Department of Corrections, and he will also undergo 18 months of mandatory supervised release after completing his prison sentence.

Judge Mark S. Godwin oversaw both Dietz’s plea and subsequent sentencing.

During the proceedings, the prosecution presented evidence indicating that on October 15, 2023, agents from the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group conducted a legal search of a package mailed to Dietz.

This package contained a large amount of a “substance” that was sent for analysis by the Illinois State Police Crime Lab. The package tested positive for meth, and Dietz admitted he was picking up the package for a drug dealer to distribute.

“Thank you to the agents with the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group for their work to remove this large amount of methamphetamine from our streets,” said Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy. “Their dedication protects the safety of our community.”
