DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A 21-year-old was arrested in Danville Thursday night when police said a traffic stop revealed he had a stolen gun.

Deputy Chief Terry McCord said the traffic stop happened at 7:30 p.m. in the area of Fairchild and Moore Streets. Officers with the Problem Oriented Policing Unit and Community Housing Unit stopped a car because the registration had been expired for over four months.

McCord added that when officers approached the car and its driver, they could see illegal drugs in plain view. Searching the car, they found a loaded gun that had previously been reported stolen.

The driver of the car — Martez Johnson of Danville — was arrested and booked into the Vermilion County Public Safety Building on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
