CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is soaking in Champaign, Illinois as FOX Sports and Barstool Sports are set to host their shows from outside Gies Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
“It’s a real test for Illinois, it lost by 60 last week,” Portnoy told WCIA. “So sometimes it’s hard [for fans] to get super excited coming off a game like that. So, obviously a huge game for Illinois. I think they have high hopes for this season, but they got to come back and beat USC this week. We’ll see. It’s a test of the student body – whether they can be up early and be ready to go, they need the game.”
FOX is hosting Big Noon Kickoff in Champaign ahead of Illinois football’s meeting with No. 21 USC.
Portnoy shared his take on the ranked matchup:
“How can anybody possibly say they’re legit after last week?” Portnoy asked, referencing Illinois’ 63-10 loss at Indiana. “I do think [Illinois is] good. I do think they’re going to win this game and bounce back. So, I guess I contradicted myself. You can’t be overly confident after what we saw last week, but I thought they were good coming in. I love Altmyer, I love the quarterback. I like Bret Bielema, so I think they have a good showing tomorrow.”
While in town, Portnoy made his way to different pizza shops in Champaign and Savoy on Friday.
He picked up Papa Del’s and Old Orchard, giving Papa Del’s 7.1 out of 10 rating.
He said he also stopped by the Illinois bookstore, gameday spirit, Papa Del’s, Monical’s, and Old Orchard Lanes and Links.
