Alleged incident involving Pre-K teacher, nonverbal Andrew Johnson Elem. student prompts DCS investigation

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL)—The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS) confirmed on Tuesday that it is investigating an alleged incident involving a nonverbal child and a Pre-K instructor at Andrew Johnson Elementary in Kingsport.

According to the DCS, it has an open investigation related to the case, but under state and federal law, the department cannot release additional details as of Tuesday.

The Kingsport Police Department (KPD) provided the following statement:

We cannot release any further information at this time. The department is currently working with DCS in this matter. It is an open investigation currently and is assigned to our Criminal Investigation Division.

News Channel 11 also reached out to Kingsport City Schools. A spokesperson said the school system could not comment on the matter.
