DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — In Decatur the fire station on Eldorado St. is getting remodeled into new, luxury apartments.

Construction crews have already started working on the facility. The top of the building is already torn, wooden beams used for support and construction cones placed have been placed around for safety.

One deputy fire chief who used to work at Station 3 said seeing it transform into something new means he can still drive by and reminisce.

“If you talk to any firefighter that loves Station 3 and loves being there, it’s nice to see that peace preserved, it really is” said Deputy Chief Toby Jackson. “Because everybody that will probably tell you, they loved the old [Station] 3. And even though it was a small house, we loved running out of there.”

Additionally, the property owner said they’ll be building three apartments at the top and storage below for personal use. He also said the construction should be done by next year.
