In a concerning incident that unfolded in Decatur, Illinois, local authorities have apprehended several individuals, including a minor, following a late-night episode involving gunfire. The Decatur Police Department’s Sergeant Brandon Rolfs provided insights into the situation, which transpired just before midnight.
At approximately 11:42 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of North Clinton Street in response to reports of shots being fired. Upon reaching the location, police observed numerous individuals fleeing into a residence. The officers swiftly secured the premises and issued directives for those inside to exit.
The investigation revealed a staggering 179 spent shell casings scattered across the yard and property, representing a variety of calibers. A subsequent search of the residence uncovered four firearms. Disturbingly, one of these weapons bore a defaced serial number, while another was fitted with a device suggesting it could operate in a fully automatic or machine gun-like mode, according to Sergeant Rolfs.
As the night unfolded into morning, several adults were taken into custody and transported to the Macon County Jail on charges related to weapons offenses. Additionally, a juvenile was detained and transferred to the McLean County Juvenile Detention Center, marking a serious escalation in the investigation.
Several adults were arrested and booked into the Macon County Jail for various weapons offenses this morning, Rolfs said. One juvenile was also arrested and sent to the McLean County Juvenile Detention Center.
Rolfs said no one was hurt, and there was no indication that anyone was firing the shots at each other, but rather recklessly shooting up into the air.
