DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The search for a Decatur man accused of a deadly stabbing is over, police announced.

In a news release, Deputy Police Chief Scott Rosenberry said Latonian Johnson, 50, was arrested on Friday at a home in Decatur. He was wanted on an arrest warrant that charged him with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Johnson is accused of stabbing and killing his on-and-off-again girlfriend, 38-year-old Dawnette Sigmon, and stabbing her two teenage children when they tried to help their mother. The teens were treated at the hospital and were released.

Johnson spent 10 days on the run, and Crime Stoppers offered a $5,000 reward for information that led to his arrest. At 7:44 p.m. on Friday, the manhunt came to an end with Johnson’s arrest.

Police added that before being booked into the Macon County Jail on the warrant, Johnson was treated at a local hospital for self-inflicted injuries that he sustained before his arrest.

Although Johnson has been arrested, the investigation into Sigmon’s murder is ongoing. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the Decatur Police Department Investigations Division at 217-424-2734 or Detective Kaylor at 217-542-3414.
