DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Decatur Police Department is investigating after a pizza delivery driver was battered while attempting to make a delivery over the weekend.

Lieutenant Adam Jahraus told WCIA that around midnight on Sept. 27, the victim tried to deliver pizza to a home near the intersection of E Locust and N Illinois Streets. But, when the delivery driver arrived, they were told that the residents had not ordered pizza.

The driver called the phone number used to order the pizza several times. But, Jahraus said, that’s when a group walked around from the back of the home.

One of the individuals told the delivery driver that his mother had ordered and paid for the pizza. In response, the driver said that it had not been paid for yet. After that, Jahraus said the delivery driver was punched, and the pizzas were taken.

No arrests have been made as of Monday afternoon. Anyone with more information is encouraged to call the Decatur Police Department at 217-424-2711. To submit an anonymous tip, call Macon County Crime Stoppers at 217-423-8477.
