Decatur Police Urgently Seek Leads on Illegally Modified Gun Linked to Home and Vehicle Shooting

In a bid to enhance public safety, the Decatur Police Department is reaching out to the community for assistance in removing a dangerous firearm from the streets. The appeal follows a concerning incident that unfolded late Friday night.

As the clock neared midnight, officers were dispatched to the area surrounding Monroe and Division Streets. This response came after a flurry of calls from residents reporting gunfire. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a vehicle with a bullet hole on the driver’s side and a nearby house marred by five bullet impacts.

However, cooperation from the homeowner was lacking. The individual insisted that the visible damage to the house was not recent, despite the evident signs of gunfire.

Contradicting the homeowner’s claims, video footage obtained by the police tells a more pressing tale. The surveillance footage captured the weapon discharging a “burst of gunfire,” painting a vivid picture of the night’s events and underscoring the urgency of the situation.

In a related note, the Mahomet Police Department emphasizes the importance of electric scooter safety, advocating for community vigilance in all aspects of public safety. The Decatur Police remain committed to ensuring the weapon involved in Friday’s incident is swiftly taken off the streets.

Rolfs said these modified guns are dangerous; once you pull the trigger, it’ll keep releasing bullets until you lift your finger up. No injuries were reported and the police said there is no information about whether anyone in particular was targeted.
