DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A Decatur resident, Anthony Dickey Jr., is now charged with attempted murder linked to a shooting incident that took place four months ago. Interestingly, the victim in this case has also been charged due to his alleged possession of a firearm despite being prohibited from having one.
According to court documents, 28-year-old Dickey appeared in court for the first time on Monday. He faces five serious charges, including attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, both classified as Class X felonies. Additionally, he has been charged with possession of a firearm by a repeat offender, as well as two Class 2 felonies: possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon without a concealed carry license.
Judge Thomas Griffith reviewed a petition to deny Dickey’s pretrial release, determining that he qualified for continued detention. Consequently, Dickey remains in custody at the Macon County Jail, the same facility where his alleged victim is also held.
The victim, Marcelo Montiel Jr., aged 25, has been incarcerated since the night of the shooting. He faces charges identical to the Class 2 felonies filed against Dickey. Montiel was denied pretrial release due to concerns about his potential to flee the prosecution.
