DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A 19-year-old male succumbed to his injuries after being found with gunshot wounds, Decatur Police said.

According to Lieutenant Scott Rosenbery, at approximately 12:01 p.m. on Tuesday, the Decatur Police Department responded to the report of a shooting in the 500 block of S Church St. Upon arrival, officers located the 19-year-old male in the parking lot of 550 S Church St., where he was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The gunshot victim was transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital by ambulance, where he later died from his injuries. The parking lot where the teen was found was then secured to preserve the crime scene.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division processed the scene and recovered 17 shell casings. They later conducted multiple interviews and executed two search warrants at residences in the 2500 block of E North St. and 1700 block of N 34th St. These searches resulted in the seizure of two firearms, ammunition and electronic devices.
