DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Spring is here and that means the Scovill Zoo in Decatur is nearly ready to open.

The zoo’s director Heather Purdeu said each year they continue to grow. This season, they’ll be introducing two new mountain lions, a baby howler monkey and a wallaby joey. Purdeu said they are excited to share the new additions with the community.

“Even if you come and enjoy the zoo on opening weekend, that you come back and enjoy this new habitat that we’ll be opening up. And so that will be later this spring. And obviously, you know, people come back to the zoo, they kind of want to see some of their favorites that been around for a while. You know, you can come back and see our wolves or cheetahs, a lot of our reptiles and, of course, our goats and cows and the petting zoo that people always like to spend a lot of time seeing,” Purdeu said.

The zoo’s opening day is this Saturday, April 5. This year they’ll have some new promotions, In April every Monday will be free to enter and in June every Thursday will be free.
