PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. (WFLA) — A decoy police car being utilized as a crime deterrent at a Pembroke Park gas station was vandalized over the weekend, according to authorities.

Now, police are looking for the three suspects who they say climbed on top of the vehicle and kicked the front windshield, causing an estimated $1,000 in damage as the windshield shattered.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, according to the Pembroke Park Police Department. Video taken by a bystander showed a large group of people on dirt bikes and motorcycles stopped at the RaceTrac gas station on Pembroke Road.

Investigators said the group of nearly 90 to 150 individuals was actively participating in an illegal street takeover when the incident happened, and had been involved in several others throughout South Florida before to heading to the gas station.

“A street takeover is a dangerous and unlawful event where groups of individuals, often operating vehicles, motorcycles, or ATVs, take control of public roadways,” police said. “These activities frequently involve reckless driving, high-speed maneuvers, drifting, and burnouts, posing significant risks to public safety and often resulting in collisions and injuries.”

The group is believed to have continued engaging in “reckless behavior” after leaving the gas station, according to the police department.

Anyone with information on the three people who are accused of damaging the police car is asked to contact the Pembroke Park Police Department at 954-374-8639. Anonymous tips can also be sent to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

“The Pembroke Park Police Department remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of our community and holding those who engage in unlawful and dangerous activities accountable,” authorities said.
