ATLANTA (WRBL) — More than 300 Delta contractors at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport will be laid off by Sept. 30.

Unifi Aviation, a contractor of Delta Airlines, recently filed a Worker Adjustment Restraining Notification (WARN) providing employees with legally required notice of mass layoffs. According to Delta officials, the WARN was filed to comply with the law and does not confirm the loss of jobs.

The layoffs are a part of their expansion plan with catering and facility management company Newrest, officials say.

Delta Airlines shared the following statement with WRBL News3:

“Delta is transitioning our Atlanta commissary services from Unifi to Newrest and partnering with both organizations to maintain a seamless customer and employee experience. While the partner overseeing this work will change, all Unifi employees have been given the opportunity to join the Newrest team.”

A Delta spokesperson says employees of Unifi were notified of the transition beforehand.

The Unifi company provides the operations that prepare and supply aircraft with catering and other onboard amenities.

Assembly agents, business analysts, commissary agents, driving commissary operations dispatchers, agent duty managers and general managers are among the positions that are expected to be impacted.
