DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Scovill Zoo is inviting people living with dementia to join them for a fun, relaxing day at the zoo on Monday.

Every first Monday of the month, the zoo holds a Dementia Friendly Day. This month’s event will be July 7. Community members with dementia and their caregivers will be given free admission, snacks, and can take part in social activities from 1-3 p.m.

Organizers said during the event, individuals living with dementia will also have the chance to socialize. This can improve mental and physical health, raise confidence, improve one’s mood, and so much more.

Dementia Friendly Days are done in partnership with Dementia Friendly Decatur, an organization which works to give a higher quality of life to those living with dementia. To learn more about Dementia Friendly Days at the zoo, call 217-422-9888 or email dementiafriendly@chelpil.org.
