TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Better Call Behnken is getting results for a disabled veteran who was left without his motorized wheelchair for nearly a month.

When Kenneth Copeland, a quadriplegic with limited use of his arms, called Consumer Investigator Shannon Behnken for help, he was desperate and stuck in a traditional wheelchair that made life even tougher.

He said the Tampa VA gave him the runaround.

Copeland, who served in the Navy, said he didn’t want to leave his apartment because of the difficulty.

Better Call Behnken was promised this would be looked into, and that the parts were there now, and a worker would stay through the night to fix the chair. A spokesperson blamed delays in parts and difficulty in making repairs.

Less than 24 hours later, Behnken was back at Copeland’s complex, and so was his motorized chair.

The VA delivered the chair, and Copeland carefully switched back to the chair he said gives him freedom and security.

“I’ve got my chair back,” Copeland said. “I’ve got my life back. It gives me a bit of a life again. It gives me a chance at life again and that’s all I asked for. That’s all I wanted.”
