URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Urbana Park District is gearing up for their inclusive 5K event, inviting people of all backgrounds to participate. Kern McCalla, an official from the park district, joined WCIA 3’s Mitchell Rife in the studio on Wednesday to discuss the event’s details.
Kern McCalla, who serves as the Outreach and Wellness Coordinator for the district, announced that the Power of Parks 5K will be held at Meadowbrook Park on July 11, with the race starting at 10:30 a.m.
“As the name suggests, we want participants to truly appreciate the ‘power of parks,’ especially since July is recognized as National Parks and Recreation Month,” McCalla explained. “This event encourages everyone to get outdoors and enjoy our community, whether you’re walking, jogging, or running.”
The registration fee for the 5K is $15. Participants can sign up online, call 217-367-1544, or register on the day of the race.
