Grovetown, Ga. () – Grovetown has been around since 1881, but by Georgia standards that’s not that old.
“Comparatively, we are a little bit younger. Don’t let that fool you. There’s so much history here and so much to learn and discover about our city: younger and hipper… a little bit hipper, yeah,” said Jordan Johnson Grovetown PIO.
And with Grovetown being young and hip, some residents have an unofficial but affection nickname for their town.
“Groovytown,” and Barbara Carmichael.
“Groovytown,” said Brett Rogers.
“Groovytown, yeah. Hey, I’m older. I’m not dead. Groovytown is good,” said Vicki Jordan.
But could Groovytown be replacing Grovetown? According to social media, there’s been a motion to make Groovytown the new name.
“To have it named Groovytown? I mean to me, I’d rather leave it as Grovetown,” said Joey Allen.
“Sure,” said Jodie Hayes.
“You would like Groovytown?
“Sure,” she said.
“No not really,” said Brett.
“You don’t like Groovytown?”
“It’s okay,” he said.
We went to Grovetown city hall to see if there has been a motion or petition to officially change the name to Groovytown.
“As groovy as we are, as growing as we are, and as happening as we are here in the city of Grovetown… ah, no. No one has made an official motion to name as anything other than the city of Grovetown, so as I say, as groovy as we might be, it’s not in the plans,” said Jordan.
“Oh, really? Oh should have known,” said Barbara.
If there is an opportunity, are you going to petition to be Groovytown?
“I’m not going to go that far,” Barbara said.
But by any name… this is a groovy place.
