The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has opted not to publish its analysis of the 2024 election setbacks. Instead, the party is focusing on leveraging the momentum gained in 2025 to reclaim control in the upcoming congressional midterms.
“Our guiding principle is straightforward: does this action contribute to our victory?” DNC Chair Ken Martin explained in a statement to The Hill on Thursday. “If it doesn’t, then it detracts from our primary objectives.”
The strategic move to keep the 2024 autopsy private and emphasize focus on future elections comes after Martin promised earlier this year to release the findings, Politico reported at the time.
Martin said Thursday that the committee had “completed a comprehensive review of what happened in 2024” and that Democrats were “already putting our learnings into motion.”
“In our conversations with stakeholders from across the Democratic ecosystem, we are aligned on what’s important, and that’s learning from the past and winning the future,” the DNC chief added.
The post-election analysis was based on hundreds of interviews in all 50 states, according to a DNC official, and included insights on the party’s organizing, fundraising and more.
Democrats were bruised by 2024 election upsets, and the party is still searching for the way forward amid low favorability numbers. But a string of off-year election wins, including the New York City mayoral race and gubernatorial wins in New Jersey and Virginia, have injected new momentum ahead of the midterms.
They’re also encouraged by enduring frustration with President Trump and Republicans, particularly on the handling of the economy, and hopeful they use that messaging to win back Congress next fall.
