JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Court documents revealed new details in what led to what the Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) described as a road rage shooting.

Jacob Holmes was arrested Tuesday afternoon following a shooting at the intersection of N Roan St. and 11th Ave. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and four counts of reckless endangerment, the JCPD reported.

A victim in the shooting had reportedly been taken to the hospital after being shot in the upper torso.

An affidavit filed in Washington County General Sessions Court states that Holmes was heading south on N Roan St. in the left lane with a passenger in his vehicle. He had to turn left to continue on N Roan, and the left lane then merged with the right lane.

“Holmes attempted to merge into the right lane of travel but a red Nissan Frontier, operated by the victim, was in the right lane of travel,” the affidavit reads. “The Nissan did not let Holmes merge into the right lane of travel.”

According to the affidavit, Holmes then pulled out a gun and shot from his passenger-side window into the driver-side door of the Nissan, hitting the victim.

The investigator who penned the affidavit also noted that Holmes fired past the passenger in his own vehicle.

The affidavit states that after both vehicles stopped at the intersection of N Roan and 11th Ave., Holmes got out of his vehicle, showed the gun again and told the victim to stay in the Nissan.

Officers took Holmes into custody when they arrived, and investigators collected statements from the people involved and one witness.

Holmes is set to appear in court Wednesday afternoon. His bond was set at $50,000 with the condition that he have no contact with the victims or witnesses of the incident if released.
