CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Before facing consecutive season-halting injuries, Illini sophomore guard Gretchen Dolan had little experience with any major injuries.
“It’s really challenging, especially since the worst I’d had was an ankle sprain before last year’s knee injury,” Dolan shared.
The knee issue limited her to just eight games in the 2024-25 season. In the following season, after appearing in 18 games, she needed surgery to fix a torn meniscus, having attempted to play despite the pain.
As she navigates another prematurely ended season, Dolan is striving to find silver linings in these tough circumstances.
“This is probably one of the toughest challenges I’ve faced, and I constantly remind myself that there’s a reason for it, and I’m growing significantly as a person,” Dolan said. “I feel I’ve already grown as a player, but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. When the time comes for me to return to the court, I’ll be truly thankful.”
