WATSEKA, Ill. (WCIA) — Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is now available to the children of Iroquois County.

The program sends children books in the mail every month from birth up to 5 years old at no cost to families.

The program in Iroquois County was brought on by Success By 6, a shared initiative of United Way of Kankakee & Iroquois Counties and the Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley.

“We’re investing in early literacy and giving every child the chance to fall in love with reading from the very start,” United Way officials said.

Officials celebrated the start of the program for Iroquois with a luncheon last week. Community supporters, members of the coalition and a guest from the Dolly Parton Foundation all were in attendance.

The program expanded statewide in late 2023, and is available in other counties in Central Illinois including Champaign, Shelby and Piatt Counties.

Parents can enroll their child on the Imagination Library’s website. Since the start of the program in 1995, Imagination Library has sent more than 200 million age-appropriate books through the mail to six countries since the start of the program.
