PEORIA, Ill. (WCIA) – A vibrant gathering of runners from Illinois descended upon Peoria’s Detweiller Park on Saturday, engaging in six exhilarating races.

The 2025 IHSA state cross country championships brought forth remarkable performances from teams and athletes within the WCIA 3 network.

Among the standout performances was the Glenwood girls’ cross country team. The Titans dominated the class 2A state competition, securing three top ten finishes and clinching the title with a mere 81 points. They convincingly outpaced Wheaton-St. Francis, who finished second with 129 points.

“It means a lot,” expressed Glenwood head coach Mike Garber to WCIA. “The journey through a cross country season is tough and often underestimated. These girls put in incredible effort throughout the summer and this season. They faced challenges and external pressures about what they should achieve, but today proved their potential. I’m immensely proud of them; they truly earned this victory.”

Leading Glenwood’s charge was senior Ashlyn Chopra, who secured second place individually with a remarkable time of 17:12.

The Titans’ 81 points was the lowest total by any team, in any class, at Saturday’s state meet. The second best team total was Dixon’s 2A boys’ victory with 115 points.
