BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) – Authorities have detained a suspect following a suspected double homicide that occurred in Bristol, Tennessee, early on Sunday. According to a statement from the Bristol, Tennessee Police Department (BTPD), officers responded to a reported shooting in the 100 block of Lilly Street shortly after midnight.

Upon arrival, BTPD officers discovered three individuals with gunshot wounds. Tragically, two of the victims were deceased, while the third was rushed to a nearby hospital. During a press briefing on Sunday, BTPD Chief Matt Austin revealed that the surviving victim’s condition was deemed “very critical.”

As the investigation unfolded, 18-year-old Elijah Khalil Campbell from Bristol, Virginia, was identified as the suspect by eyewitnesses, Chief Austin reported. He further noted that Campbell, the witnesses, and the victims were known to each other.

Campbell subsequently surrendered to the Bristol, Virginia Police Department on Sunday. According to Austin, Campbell contacted authorities expressing his intention to turn himself in. He is currently in custody in Virginia and is awaiting extradition to Tennessee. As of Monday, the BTPD has not released information regarding the timing of his first court appearance.

Joseph Wright told News Channel 11 that his 20-year-old son, Deonte Wright, is one of the victims who was killed, and that he attended the press conference on Sunday morning for more answers on his son’s death.

The other victim of the shooting has been identified as Lexy Coleman, age 21, according to the BTPD.

The third victim was identified on Sunday as Kevin Collin, 22, according to the BTPD. Collin remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Campbell was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, especially aggravated burglary, tampering with evidence and reckless endangerment into a habitation. He is the sole suspect, according to Austin, and no other suspects are being sought.
