BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A man arrested Friday in Brevard County is accused of DUI after crashing an SUV into a school bus that afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Christopher Lloyd, 37, faces charges of DUI and two counts of DUI with vehicle, property damage or personal injury, records show.

According to an FHP arrest report, Lloyd was behind the wheel of a Nissan Murano that a witness said was straddling the inside and outside northbound lane of U.S. 1 — just past Sea Grass Lane — when he overcorrected to avoid striking a school bus in the outside lane. Lloyd then lost control of the Nissan, which struck the left front side of the bus with its front right bumper, the report states.

Both vehicles stopped about a mile north of the intersection, troopers said. The bus driver advised she was slowing down for a bus stop when the crash occurred and had her amber flashing lights on, adding she immediately checked on the kids after the impact and never saw the driver of the Nissan, according to the report.

Lloyd, whom a trooper noted had “pinpoint pupils when in total shade” and “cotton mouth followed by white frothy spit,” would go on to perform field sobriety tests with mixed results and twice refuse to provide a breath sample, the report states.

Lloyd was then arrested and booked at the Brevard County Jail, where he was given a $1,500 bond amount and was released early Saturday, records show.
