THOMSON, Ga. – Authorities in Thomson have reported the arrest of a daycare bus driver after a 4-year-old child was left unattended on a bus this past Monday.
The Thomson Police Department responded to an incident at McDuffie Piedmont ER on April 27. The call was related to a child being discovered alone in a vehicle.
Officials identified the driver as Hazel Battle, who worked for Child’s World Daycare located at 101 Pecan Avenue in Thomson, Georgia. Battle now faces charges of Second-Degree Cruelty to Children and is being held at the McDuffie County Detention Center.
According to a police statement, the oversight came to light around 2:30 p.m. when the child’s mother arrived to pick them up, only to find out the child had been left on the bus for an extended period.
The young child is currently receiving medical care for severe dehydration and early symptoms of heat stroke.
