ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A homicide investigation was launched Sunday after a man was shot while in his car with a toddler also inside, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Police said they were initially dispatched to a call regarding a vehicle that had crashed into a parked car at an auto shop on Emerson Avenue South. The crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7.

When first responders arrived, they said they discovered the driver of the crashed vehicle, Tyrone Howard, 21, had been shot. An 18-month-old girl was also in his car.

Authorities said the toddler was not injured but was taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital to be checked out.
