LERNA, Ill. (WCIA) – The United States Geological Survey says a magnitude 3.5 earthquake was reported 3 miles SSW of Lerna on Monday evening.

The 3.5 rating comes from the Richter Scale, which rates earthquakes on their strength. Earthquakes with a rating in the 3 range typically are felt but rarely produce damage.
The quake happened at around 11:43p. It was fairly shallow beneath the surface, allowing for more shaking to be felt. Several viewers have messaged WCIA asking about the quake, reporting that they felt shaking.
