Edgefield Co. tax assessor arrested for 3rd degree assault and battery, victim and attorney to speak out

EDGEFIELD COUNTY, S.C. () – The Edgefield County Tax Assessor, Benjamin (Gerry) Coleman, has been taken into custody on charges of third-degree assault and battery. The victim in this case is now preparing to publicly address the incident.

Details from the incident report reveal that Coleman allegedly struck Christie Culbreath on the head following a heated discussion over a property matter in his office on November 26. Culbreath captured the encounter on video, which she later presented to the officers who responded to the scene.

Christie Culbreath, the alleged victim in this altercation involving Coleman, is set to break her silence regarding the event. She will be accompanied by her lawyer, Tyler Bailey, during a press conference at the Aiken County Courthouse this Friday.

The Bailey Law Firm has stated that Culbreath sustained a black eye along with other injuries as a result of the incident.
